Hughmilleria shawangunk   CLASS - Merostomata ORDER - Eurypterida FAMILY - Hughmilleridae GENUS/SPECIES - Hughmilleria shawangunk ROCK UNIT - Shawangunk Formation AGE - Middle Silurian (425 million years old) LOCALITY - Otisville, Orange Co., New York Several species of Hughmilleria are found across New York State in rocks consistently older than the Bertie Group dolostones (all other specimens in this drawer). The elongate and pointed head of this sea scorpion makes it easy to identify. This specimen was collected by pioneering paleontologist John Clarke (the 2nd state paleontologist of New York State).
