Like many modern and fossil arthropods, eurypterids had compound eyes
and other sensory devices. Many eurypterids display small, bean-shaped
eyes which are oriented for side viewing. The large bulbous eyes of Pterygotus
are located on the edge of the head and were probably useful for looking
both laterally and vertically.
