scale in cms

CLASS - Trilobite
ORDER - Phacopida
FAMILY - Homalonotidae
GENUS/SPECIES - Dipleura dekayi

ROCK UNIT - Skaneateles Formation, Hamilton Group

AGE - Middle Devonian (380 million years old)

LOCALITY - North Brook field, New York, USA

This large trilobite occurs in many different rock layers of the Hamilton Group in central New York, representing a span of several million years. It is only commonly found in silt stone (a mixture of mud and sand), very fine-grained sandstone, and sandy limestone beds that are riddled with burrows. It appears that Dipleura liked living in and on the sea-floor in areas where fine sands were being deposited. Maybe they ate the sea worms and other creatures that preferred burrowing through these sediments
