Eocrinoids are among the earliest echinoderms to appear in the fossil record. Although they have the same basic body plan as crinoids (stem, main body portion/thecae & arms), they differ from crinoids by having an irregular arrangement of plates in the theca and pores along plate boundaries. The simple, unbranched arms of Gogia twist away from the body.
