Talus slope

This is a talus slope of shale fragments. A talus slope is a pile of rock fragments that forms against cliffs and steep mountain sides. Shale fragments fall into the bottom of the gorge and build upward into a pile shaped like a triangle. Occasionally, a large flood washes part or all of the pile downstream, but its slowly builds up again after the flood waters disappear.
