Calvert Miocene
Welcome to Calvert Cliffs! Calvert Cliffs is one of the best places in the world to observe Miocene fossils. There are an abundance of clams, scallops, snails and other mollusks from this time period. You might also find whale bones and shark teeth. Rarely, the bones of land animals and the remains of plants and animals may be found.

Calvert Cliffs is located in Southern Maryland along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

There are a number of places to find fossils in the cliffs. Our study focused on Flag Pond Nature Park, Matoaka Cabins, and Scientist’s Cliffs.
