Mission of the Website

Upon scanning the web, it became clear to me that most petroleum geology Websites with an educational focus assumed a basic background in geology. Our approach has been to provide a content-rich site that attempts to cover most of the major aspects of the geology of oil, while giving the user some geologic fundamentals along the way. We have also attempted to base the site around perceived visitors' experiences - specifically with the "Geology in Your Backyard" section. The current plan is to broaden this topic to ten or more sites across North America, and eventually to other locations worldwide - much of this work is already underway. The site has been written with the 13-15 year age group in mind, although we feel it has value to both younger and older individuals with an interest in the fascinating world of oil.

If there is something that you would like to see included in the content of this site, feel free to email me at picconi@museumoftheearth.org and it will be considered for inclusion.

This site has been designed, organized and written by Peter Nester for the specific use of the Paleontological Research Institution. Any attempt to reproduce portions of this site for private use is prohibited without the permission of the author or of PRI.
