PRI’s Fossilmania celebration will begin on Saturday, October 5th with Teacher Resource Day and culminate in a Family Day celebration at the Museum on Saturday, October 12th from 10am to 1pm. Activities will include a time-line game, making a eurypterid bookmark, becoming a Junior Paleontologist and more.
These events coincide with Earth Science Week and National Fossil Day which occur the second week of October every year. National Fossil Day is sponsored by the National Park Service and PRI is a National Fossil Day partner.
The theme and logo for National Fossil Day changes each year, and in 2013 it is the eurypterid, commonly known as the sea scorpion. The eurypterid is the Official State Fossil of New York. The Museum of the Earth displays the largest complete eurypterid ever found. And the Museum’s custom plush eurypterid was selected as the prize for winners of the National Fossil Day Art Contest this year! You can purchase your very own at our Online Store.
