Ocean currents are another feedback element that both affect climate and are affected by it. Water on Earth is a tremendous heat reservoir, and it transfers heat to and from the atmosphere. Ocean currents bring warm water toward the poles, where heat is picked up by wind currents and contributes to warming the atmosphere. This is partly what keeps northern Europe unglaciated.
