RESPONSE TO ITHACA JOURNAL ARTICLE REGARDING CAYUGA NATURE CENTER INVOVLEMENT

(August 15, 2013 - Ithaca NY) The Cayuga Nature Center is responding to an article printed in the Ithaca Journal this morning, regarding a boating accident that supposedly involved Nature Center day campers at Camp Comstock. The incorrect information has already been published in the daily issue, and there will be a correction printed tomorrow morning. Incorrect information has already been edited on the website to give the accurate story.

The incident happened near Girl Scouts Camp Comstock where Girl Scout camp counselors and Girl Scout lifeguards from the camp went out in a motorboat to tow other sailboats to shore on Cayuga Lake as the wind began to pick up. The motorboat in use began to take on water and started to sink. Cayuga Nature Center staff was sent to assist with the rescue until rescue crews arrived. Rescue crews arrived on the scene to help tow the Girl Scout counselor and scouts to safety. Some of the scouts were taken to Cayuga Medical Center for head injuries, but all on board were wearing life jackets.

Please contact our Development Department if there are any questions.
