Whale News: What's happening with #2030?
The bones of right whale #2030 are being assembled throughout the summer in PRI's greenhouse. Finger Lakes Fabricating and Ithaca engineer, Peter Novelli, are working closely together to construct the steel supports for the bones. Most of the vertebrae have now been mounted on pipes. Workers are now assembling the small flipper bones (see below).
 

The metacarpal bones of the flipper (left) have tiny holes for conncective tissues. These bones are like our knuckles.

Small bones of the flipper (phlanges) are similar to our finger bones (right).
