Summary of the position:

The Cayuga Nature Center, a public education venue of the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI), is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Summer Camp Medical Director.


Cayuga Nature Center Camp is a long-standing staple in the Ithaca and Trumansburg area for summer camp fun in the good ‘ole outdoors. We pride ourselves on serving our community with fun activities and outdoor adventures, while incorporating environmental education and knowledge to the young naturalists that attend our summer programs and camps.

We are looking for a Summer Camp Medical Director to join our team of summer camp professionals. The Camp Medical Director will be onsite 2-3 days per week while remaining on-call for emergencies during camp hours, M-F 8:00am-5:00pm. This is a great position for a health professional looking for summer employment.

The Summer Camp Medical Director is responsible for the following:

  • Supervising health and sanitation at children's camp

  • Maintaining camper's confidential medical history

  • Overseeing initial health screening of campers and daily health surveillance of camp occupants

  • Handling health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and provisions for professional health care

  • Maintaining camp's daily medical log

  • Reporting required incidents to local health department within 24 hours

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, emergency medical technician or other person acceptable to the permit-issuing official. (To practice profession in New York State, must be NYS licensed)

  • Experience working with children

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Ability to work outdoors in sometimes extreme conditions
